SHEILA KLEIN
SHOW OF HANDS
Whatcom Museum, Bellingham, Washington, 2010
Show of Hands celebrated women's contributions to the legacy of Northwest art. It coincided with the centennial of women's suffrage in Washington State, a right granted ten years prior to the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Against the backdrop of this milestone, the exhibition offers a forum for considering women's history and future as contemporary culture continues to redefine traditional gender roles and relationships. Show of Hands included two pieces from Sheila Klein, Stand, a fortress made of giant Spandex pants, and Textile Wallah, from Klein's series of work Hall of Architecture. View the show book here.
